Happy Friday Butterflies! Meeting with my clients gives me a natural and euphoric high. I am in awe of the amazing women that I work with and enjoy the insight that we are able to share with one another.
Many of my clients, and other women business owners whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting struggle to not only charge what they are worth but to charge at all. I have even witnessed a new business owner choose to walk away from her business rather than charge for her services. The struggle between the heart (the why behind the business) and the head (knowing that if it don’t make dolla’s it don’t make sense) is REAL for so many business owners ESPECIALLY women.
I just wrapped up a session with one of my clients that centered almost entirely on this subject. Her business concept is unique, and through her business she is able to empower so many women. Her heart is 100% in and I have personally witnessed how she is able to touch and help women but when it comes to the message and the money she struggles. I won’t get into her unique situation, but because I know so many of you struggle with the same thing I wanted to take a quick moment to share my advice to her with you.
Setting your own financial gain aside, when your business is thriving and profitable it allows you to expand your territory and help a broader audience and it gives you the resources to be able to pay-it forward more often.
For example, in my client’s situation her current income and reach allows her to help hundreds. With more money she can market more, allowing more people to know who she is, what she offers, and how she can help allowing her to serve tens of thousands. As she expands her territory beyond Atlanta, beyond the Southeast, beyond the US she makes more money and helps more people. Having more money and more people to help allows her to bring on a staff, creating meaningful jobs for others. Having a staff frees up more of her time, more time and more money means she has more resources to pay-it-forward. She can then offer her program to under privileged communities who otherwise would not be able to afford the service. By following the ‘head’ making sound business decisions and developing a thriving profitable business it creates a snowball effect paving the way to expand the efforts of the heart.
Your WHY is the reason you started your business! The why is what drives you, what keeps you going when times are tough. But the why doesn’t keep the lights on. Your PROFITS are the reason you STAY in business, the means by which you achieve your why. Your WHY turns the key. Your Profits fuel the engine.
Have you ever struggled to charge for your product/service? Or to charge what you are worth? What advice would you offer to my client?
