Being authentic and transparent is important to me, not only does it build trust with my clients but it’s a part of who I am. Because I am naturally a very open and outgoing person I have baffled myself for quite some time with my rather vanilla online presence. I know the content is valuable, you all tell me so (and I thank you) but has it really allowed you to get to know ME? Maybe, maybe not.
People who know me see me as relaxed, quirky, confident, outgoing, knowledgeable go getter who is oodles of fun. I’m known to digress (often) but if you follow along you are sure to gain knowledge and wisdom in a way that only I can deliver. Yet when I sit down to write my personality gets muted and although content is insightful finding my online ‘voice’ is a work in progress.
It has been my mission during the 1st couple of months of the year to confidently be who I am ‘in real life’ in my business as well. I was blessed yesterday to have the opportunity to speak with Melisoula “Mills” Wright, The Sunshine Doctor and in just 15 minutes she helped me to identify my authentic voice. As we were talking she asked what I saw myself wearing when I feel most authentic? My answer… yoga pants. I wear them almost every day and I wish they were appropriate for every occasion. THAT was my ah-ha moment. As I began to think about how I would describe yoga pants I began to realize I AM yoga pants. Yoga pants are relaxed and comfortable, they give you the flexibility to do almost anything but provide snug support to keep everything in place. Yoga pants can be bold or classic, and everyone LOVES yoga pants!
During our chat I shared as an example how many takes I record before publishing a video (don’t ask it’s shameful) and she challenged me to record a video embracing my authentic voice. So I did… 1-take, no editing (well I clipped the dead air at the beginning and end because it would just be wrong if I didn’t) and I uploaded to YouTube.
So hear I am in all my comfy, quirky gloriousness…You may now call me Brandi “Yoga Pants” Starr. Enjoy!
Any other advice, tips, or resources that you have to help myself (and my lovely readers) to be comfortable fully being who we are in business? Leave me a comment below, I’d love your insight into my journey.
